The Barn sits in the grounds of a traditional, pigeon-lofted farmhouse perched on south-facing slopes in the Quercy region of SW France. Enjoying total tranquility but not far removed from Montcuq, Montaigu de Quercy & Tournon d’Agenais (all <15 minutes away), Cambou Haut is all about prioritising the best things in life. With a large heated pool, private tennis court and games barn with table tennis, pool table, support for cyclists and plenty more, there’s activities on tap if you want them…but if you’d rather find a quiet hammock or sun lounger and relax the day away, then that's fine, too! Equally suited to families or groups of friends, the accommodation can be flexed to meet your needs and, of course, well-behaved pets are also welcome.
Accommodation: there is a self-contained maisonette on the ground floor featuring a King-size master bedroom, a second bedroom with 2-3 single beds (4 at a squeeze), a full bathroom and a large open living space with kitchen, dining and sitting areas plus stable door onto a private outdoor dining terrace. From the outside, stairs lead to a king-size bedroom, a large cinema room and an additional bathroom.
Favourite things to do without leaving the house:
Coffee in the morning sun listening to birds (and nothing else) - tennis before breakfast - croissants and pains au chocolat on the terrace - first swim of the day - reading/falling asleep again in a sun-dappled, gently swaying hammock - PETANQUE WARS! - butterfly spotting - al fresco lunch: cheese, cheese and more cheese - pondering why rosé always tastes better here than at home - a matinée film in the cinema room - PING PONG WARS! - mojitos made with mint from the garden - sunset bike ride or walk to the Daudery windmill - al fresco dinner and stargazing followed by a moonlit swim.
And if you do feel like venturing further afield, there’s no shortage of options. The cycling is excellent, there’s rafting and wild swimming on both the Lot and the Célé, castles and medieval history (and prehistoric sites, too) and plenty of picture-postcard towns and villages to explore, all within a reasonable drive.
Practical stuff: Cambou Haut is about 75 minutes from Toulouse airport (or 60 minutes from Bergerac). There’s no boulangerie within walking distance but Montcuq and Montaigu are good sized towns with supermarkets and plenty of restaurants, markets and festivals. They both also have excellent swimming lakes with safe, sandy beaches. The area is famous for wine - Malbec in particular - with most vineyards open for tastings. The climate is generally excellent but can be very hot in summer. The thick stone walls are good at keeping the heat out but be aware there is no air conditioning. Please note, the farmhouse may be occupied by the owners. If so, we’ll be available if you want to ask us anything - top tips for restaurants, wine tasting and wild swimming spots, for example - and we reserve the right to use any facilities when not in use by guests but otherwise we’ll do our best not to disturb your serious relaxation!
