The Hay Barn is the middle unit of a traditional Breton longere, newly restored in contemporary style and with all amenities. It is about 1km from the town of Antrain near the Normandy/Brittany border. The location is peaceful but within easy reach of all amenities and many tourist destinations.
It is a wonderful sight seeing area and base, being near the walled city and beaches of St Malo, Dinard, mediaeval Dinan on the river Rance, Mont St Michel newly restored to the status of an island, Fougeres with the largest mediaeval castle in Europe, the oyster port of Cancale and the shops and markets of Rennes.
The leisure area of the Foret de Villecartier 1km away, has walks, lake, boating, treetop assault courses, café/bar and pony rides. There are also lovely walks in the quieter parts of the Foret. The Etang de Boulet about 15 minutes away has a lovely lakeside beach with boating and café.
Fougeres boasts a swimming pool complex with slides and whirlpools. 10 pin bowling is available at Dol de Bretagne a few km away.
There are 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with bunk beds. Each bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom with shower cubicle, hand basin, toilet and heated towel rail. Downstairs is a combined living room/kitchen with all fitted appliances, a dining table and lounge area with English satellite TV. Outside, the large enclosed garden at the back is an ideal recreation area. At the back of the house is an attractively gravelled terrace with barbecue and garden furniture. At the far end of the garden another raised terrace is shaded by an oak tree and is a lovely place to sit in peace, surrounded by fields and enjoying a glass of wine.
A travel cot, stairgate and high chair are available for young children. Free wifi is available throughout.
English and French television are both available.
At the front of the property is private parking.
Although the house is secluded, the village of La Fontenelle with a lovely bar/restaurant/boulangerie is within walking distance, as is the public tennis court. The town of Antrain is 1km away; here there is a supermarket, bank, pharmacies, boulangeries, newsagents and other shops.
There are many opportunites for cycling including the disused railway from Antrain to Fougeres, now a cycle track.
There are plenty of family friendly activities in the region. Try the nearby theme park Cobac Parc at Lanhelin, Alligator Bay at Pontorson only 10km away, and the Grand Aquarium at St Malo. There are several chateaux nearby; the chateau de la Rouerie has a wildlife park whilst the Chateau de la Ballue has exceptional gardens as well as regular concerts and cultural events. It is a straightforward day trip to reach further into Brittany, or the Bayeaux tapestry and the D Day landing beaches.
