Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town, is also only a short, 10 minute car journey away and for those who want to travel further afield, we are close to Cairnryan Port, which regularly runs ferries and/or day trips to Northern Ireland. Surrounded by miles of quiet country lanes, High Threave Cottage is the ideal location for walkers and cyclists and is close to Kirroughtree and the renowned 7Stanes mountain bike trails for the more adventurous.
With the Galloway Forest and Dark Skies Park only a short drive away High Threave Cottage is ideally placed to explore the beauty of Southwest Scotland and the many attractions and activities it has to offer. This area of Dumfries and Galloway, known as ‘The Machars’, boasts rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches which benefit from the warmth of the passing Gulf stream and is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, offering an ideal base from which to explore the Machars Peninsula and the Galloway hills.
